Rome, Italy
We had a rough day.
The train ride from Venice wasn’t so bad except for the fact that we had to sit across from each other rather than beside each other and other people sat beside us. A really nice Italian college student sat beside Josh. She was friendly and said that my Italian was very good. At first a nice, quiet woman sat beside me. Then, this older man boarded about an hour into the trip and caused a huge ruckus because a family with two babies was sitting in his window seat. The train attendants had to get involved and like 10 people had to move seats. This same older guy later pulled everyone’s luggage off the rack and just left it laying on the ground.
Anyway, as a result, the nice lady beside of me had to move and a man got put in her seat. First, he tired to make me take his seat when I stood up to let him. Then, he rolled his eyes and huffed when I wouldn’t give up my aisle seat across from Josh. Then, He took up the entire arm rest (that the lady and I were sharing just fine) and spread his legs all into my space. Rude!
We walked to our hotel and realized it was in a huge building with lot of other hotels and businesses. The elevator was very small and old and we got stuck in between floors. We were only stuck for about a minute, but it felt like forever. When we got up to our hotel – which we had reserved through Expedia – they had no record of our reservation. And they were fully booked. The guy said they don’t even book through Expedia at all.
So, we were left without a hotel and it was already around 4 pm. Luckily, there were other hotels in the same building and we were able to find another one with a room available for all 5 days. It was quite a bit more expensive, but we negotiated a good price for what we got. Unlike the hotel we were supposed to stay at, this one has a bathroom in the room and free wifi. We got the guy to throw in free breakfast, as well.
We spent the rest of the evening walking around the streets near our hotel. Rome definitely isn’t our favorite place. It actually remind me a lot of New York – very loud, fast-paced and kind of dirty.
Tomorrow, we’re going to Vatican City and hopefully things will go a little better.
